She was one of those “bigger than life” kind of gals.

One of the worst things about being the only one left from your family

Betty Sheehan of Carroll, former Carroll County Recorder, died this morning, Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a brief bout with cancer. She was 78.

Visitation starts at 4 p.m. and St. Lawrence Parish will hold a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. Friday at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll.
A daughter of Lewis and Florence (Williamson) Leeper, she and her twin brother were born Sept. 15, 1927, at Washington, Iowa. The family moved to Nevada, Iowa, and she graduated from Nevada High School. She attended Drake University at Des Moines, where she was the band’s drum majorette. She then worked as a hostess at Lake Shore Hotel in Clear Lake, where she met her future husband.
She and Thomas J. Sheehan were married Oct. 10, 1953, at Nevada. They settled in Carroll.
Mrs. Sheehan was Carroll County Deputy Recorder from 1967 to 1982 and served as Carroll County Recorder from 1982 until her retirement in 1992.
She was a member of St. Lawrence Parish and Ladies Guild, charter member of the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary and member of the Carroll Country Club. She enjoyed reading, cooking, golfing, dogs, movies, jazz, cats, nature, crossword puzzles, watching the Iowa Hawkeyes, and socializing with her many friends.
Survivors include a daughter, Kitty Sheehan, and her husband, …, a grand-daughter, …; two stepgrandsons: …; two brothers: … and many nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Sheehan was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas, in July 2003; a son, Daniel Sheehan, in 1978; and a sister, Janice Egland.
